The place on Broadway

You'll find the casino at 510 Broadway St W, Yorkton, SK S3N 0P3. The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) runs it. SIGA is a First Nations non-profit organization established in 1995. It operates seven casinos in Saskatchewan and reinvests all net proceeds in the province. It was the fourth and final SIGA casino to open in 1996, welcoming guests from December 14 of that year.

As the casino explains it, the red painted hand represents courage and honour. Out front, a bronze sculpture of riders on horseback stands before the curved main entrance. Tell a friend coming in from Kamsack to meet you by the riders.

SIGA puts the building at 43,000 square feet, with 241 slot machines and 9 table games. It counts 139 employees, 73% of them First Nations employees. The casino records over 300,000 guests a year.

At the door, and the card

  • The casino is 19+, and 19 is the legal gambling age in Saskatchewan.
  • At SIGA casinos, anyone under 19, and anyone excluded or self-excluded, is a prohibited individual. A prohibited individual cannot receive winnings.
  • SIGA Rewards is one membership card for the seven SIGA casinos. It is one club with four tiers, and membership is free.
  • Members who show the card get 10% off a Legends Restaurant or deli order. The same discount applies at restaurants and delis at other SIGA locations.

Where the money goes

Net profits from SIGA's seven casinos are divided three ways. Half, 50%, goes to the First Nations Trust. Another 25% is paid to Community Development Corporations, while the final 25% lands in the General Revenue Fund of Saskatchewan's government. Saskatchewan has nine permanent casinos: the seven SIGA casinos, including the one in Yorkton, plus Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw.

Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS), a Crown corporation, oversees lotteries and gaming in the province. The job of regulating belongs to the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, or SLGA for short.
